Last Sunday on the 3rd of June ABTEC had yet another dB Drag Sound-off Event at its Lower Hutt Workshop. Due to the weather and the long weekend it wasn’t the biggest turn out we have had, but in saying that it was a good bunch of people, we all got to talk on more personal level and i finally got to put a few faces to some names. The morning started off pretty good with one of the competitors turning up two hours early to help Ashley and myself set-up the dB Drag Trailer and Workshop. This to myself...
On the 19th of May 2012 Ashley & Darryl Burrell set off on a long tiring set of flights to the US of A starting with a short flight to Auckland with a brief bit of down time of around two and a half hours till the big flight out of NZ to San Francisco, USA. After the thirteen hour flight to San Francisco, they had another three hour flight to Oklahoma City with some excitement of flying through Tornado Alley. I’m no expert on Tornado Alley but the one thing I do know about it is it takes a certain...
Back on the 12th of May not only did we manage a 150.1dB with the 4 entry level 10″ Sony Xplod’s in the Toyota Vitz but we also managed to get 152.3dB with the same set-up apart from the 4 entry level JBL 12″ sub-woofers. We have also managed a a 150.5dB in the Mitsubishi Pajero with these same 4 JBL 12″s but with a more powerful amplifier which proves to myself that the Toyota Vitz is a much better base for a SPL car. If you look at it from a different angle the the Toyota Vitz has half...

Abtec NZ gunning for db record… Last Saturday on the 12th we decided to prep ABTEC3 for an upcoming event we will be running in the near future and do a couple of SPL test’s while we were at it. Soon after arriving I found myself having a conversation with our MD about setting up the 10’s again with no change of gear as I was convinced it has a good 150db in this setup. After a good half an hour of putting all the same gear back in from the 149.9db run we did at the V 4 & Rotary North Island...
Ok this Blog isn’t written about myself getting a Mitsubishi EVO IX as a demo car but about when Ashley Burrell our MD brought one for himself. I understand as a man and as a car enthusiast you can’t really put a price on happiness and this must be obtained by your doings in life but I’m pretty sure driving around in a EVO IX must of put a smile on Ashley’s face on a daily basis, as I know I would be smiling every time I left the driveway if I owned one! The Mitsubishi EVO’s were designed as a...
As the search goes on for SPL results over the 150dB mark we have been trying our different box designs in different cars in our fleet, so far the box that has been the most successful is the one with the four JBL GTO1214 SVC subs in it. Lawrence has tried SPL test’s with every box available in our arsenal and after many close results the decision was made to stick with the four JBL 12″s and throw more power at it. So out with the Digital Designs M3a and in with a Digital Designs M4a and the 5200w RMS it produces!...
Earlier on in the year we started playing around with SPL (Sound Pressure Levels) box designs. Researching, designing, building and testing them until our ears almost bleed at times and then we came across one design we were happy with. This design was used in the states and produced some MASSIVE SPL numbers in a little Honda CRX, we duplicated this design and with this box and four entry level 10″ Sony Subs we managed a 149.9dB in ABTEC3. You can read all about that HERE Since this design worked so well on four entry level 10’s we thought why...
When I was told we were getting a Digital Designs Z18 for the back of the trusty old Pajero I was overwhelmed with excitement, so much excitement that all I wanted to do is go and tell people like what a 5 year would do when he gets a new Tonka Tow-Truck for his birthday! The only thing with this was that I was sworn to secrecy and wasn’t allowed to tell anybody, and anyone that knows me well would know this was very hard for me to do! After a couple of weeks of manufacturing and shipping there was a knock...
In late June/July 2011 ABTEC opened its Showroom/Workshop at Unit 1, 4 Railway Avenue, Alicetown, Lower Hutt. Increasing the range of services provided to the public and also a place where people can visit to talk face-to-face about future installations/products or just general advise about there existing car audio set ups. Opening the Showroom/Workshop also meant taking on more staff and also shuffling existing staff around to accommodate the extra work load. So Darryl and Dennis moved from Head-Office to the Hutt Workshop, Lawrence came on-board and eventually George became part of the team. With the addition of Lawrence on-board, this meant not only...
