Usually doing an install on an Audi isn’t such a big thing as our Tech’s do install’s on European cars almost on a daily basis, but when a regular customer that is MAD on Digital Designs comes in with his Audi RS4 Avant I just knew this was going to be something special. Just to give to some info on this customer without dropping names, he has been a loyal customer of ABTEC for about three and a bit years, with install’s ranging from alarm and audio in his numerous courier vans to decking out his past Holden Commodore (That happened to have...
As Ashley ‘Mad Bass’ Burrell does on occasion, he flew up to Auckland for the 2012 Speedshow at the ASB Grounds in Greenlane. And why wouldn’t he, the combination of Hot-Rods, stunt driving and a good atmosphere it covers most grounds for most Carshow fans! We at ABTEC have been supporting and running the Carshows site for seven years now and are looking forward to the next seven years of Carshows too! Here are a few of my favourite photos from the show, enjoy! There is just something about old school muscle cars that I love and this show had a lot,...
Last week after a long discussion with Ashley Burrell a decision was made to change the look of the Lower Hutt Showroom a touch. This meant not only taking the Digital Designs DD-Z18-D1.5 out of the the Pajero (ABTEC1), but it also meant that we had to carpet it so it didn’t look out of place next to all the other carpeted boxes. Once the Z18 and 9512‘s boxes were all carpeted, it was time to drive them over to Lower Hutt. When we arrived Ashley soon realised he had forgot his keys, lucky for us Darryl Burrell wasn’t to far away. While...
Its not very often that a Digital Designs Z Series gets brought here in little old New Zealand, what is even more rare is a customer that will happily let me open the box so we could take a photos of it! Today here at ABTEC is a very exciting day, not only have we sold a DD-Z15-D2 but the owner was kind enough to let me unpack it to share to the world on facebook! Even though the Z15 isn’t mine I had that same familiar feeling of being a 5 year old on his birthday unwrapping the Tonka...

Back in mid may Ashley & Darryl Burrell (The ABTEC Brothers) flew all the way over to the US of A to meet and learn a few things off the Digital Designs crew. While over there Darryl spent a day learning all about building and repairing Digital Designs Sub-Woofers, in the process taking photos and videos until his battery on his camera couldn’t take it any more! This blog isn’t so much about the trip to the States but how we at ABTEC are now doing Digital Designs Sub-Woofer re-coning and repairs. If you are interested in reading about the...
Since Bluetooth Head-Units are becoming something of a norm today in most peoples daily drivers I came to the conclusion we should compare four of our biggest sellers with a 101 On Bluetooth Head-Units. We will start this off with comparing their RRP (Retail) Prices: Pioneer DEH-4450BT RRP: $349.95 Panasonic CQ-RXBT490w RRP: $399.99 Sony MEX-BT4050U RRP: $399.95 Alpine CDE-133EBT RRP: $449.00 Bluetooth Hands-Free: Ok, this is where it starts to get a little harder to compare the four units here. The Sony MEX-BT4050U has a built-in Microphone which makes it a way easier unit to install but the downfall is usually...
There has been a lot of debates over the years about the Pro’s and Con’s of Parallel Imported goods, in this blog I will try to explain as much as possible about buying Parallel Import Vs buying NZ New. Lets start by looking it from the distributors point of view When a distributor receives goods off an importer as NZ New they have already been through the quality control process ensuring they are up to the NZ Standards, and there for are guaranteed for repair in NZ. Also this means the distributor can have a more hands on approach when it comes to...
Back in 2006 Ashley Burrell (ABTEC‘s Managing Director) decided it was time for ABTEC to have a new company logo/mascot so he contacted some friends at a local animation company and asked if they could come up with something that would represent the company well. When they came back with a sketch of a robot Ashley was like “What’s that got to do with car audio”, they soon explained that most companies usually used cars and wheels so they wanted to try something a little different. They also went on and showed how they used car audio (Tweeters mid-range speakers in...
A tilt sensor is one of the more expensive sensor upgrade options on offer from the car alarm brands and we’re often asked if it’s worth spending the extra money on one. So we thought we’d post Tilt sensor 101 … In broad terms a tilt sensor is designed to detect if your car is jacked up while the alarm is armed. There are two common situations where a tilt sensor will help protect your car: Often a thief will not be after your entire car, they just want individual pieces from it, and wheels can be valuable and easy...
