{"id":4026,"date":"2014-01-16T16:06:25","date_gmt":"2014-01-16T03:06:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.abtec.co.nz\/blog\/?p=4026"},"modified":"2015-06-30T08:46:27","modified_gmt":"2015-06-29T20:46:27","slug":"sony-action-cam-product-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abtec.co.nz\/blog\/sony-action-cam-product-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Sony Action Cam Product Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When we were approached about selling the <strong>NEW<\/strong> <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.abtec.co.nz\/Sony_HDR_AS30VPK\" target=\"_blank\">Sony\u00a0HDR-AS30VPK Action Cam<\/a><\/strong> I was quite excited, not because it was a new product line for <strong>ABTEC&#8217;s Shop in Petone<\/strong> but more because it meant that I would be doing a <strong>Product Review<\/strong> on something out of the norm of Car Audio&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>On the weeks building up to the Christmas break and also during the break I got to test the <strong>Sony Action Cam<\/strong> and also its competitions product so I could have proper comparison of the products.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abtec.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/AC.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4047\" title=\"AC\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abtec.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/AC.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"435\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abtec.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/AC.jpg 600w, https:\/\/abtec.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/AC-300x217.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>First things first, unpacking the <strong>HDR-AS30VPK<\/strong>! Like a fellow blogger\/reviewer <strong>Aaron<\/strong> I wanted to photograph the whole unpacking of the product, but due to my patience or lack of by the time <strong>Ashley<\/strong> got the camera out I had already had it unpacked and already charging.<\/p>\n<p>I was surprised to what you get for money as most of the competitors products only came with the bare basics at a higher price point.<\/p>\n<p>What you get supplied is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>HDR-AS30VPK Action Camera<\/li>\n<li>Rechargeable Battery Pack<\/li>\n<li>Micro USB Cable<\/li>\n<li>Waterproof Case<\/li>\n<li>Adhesive Mount<\/li>\n<li>Bonus LCD Mount<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The Bonus LCD Mount<\/strong> in my opinion is great little add-on which allows your Action Cam to be used as a camcorder, this I found very handy while making little demo videos of the company vehicles playing bass heavy music.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abtec.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/MAH000321.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4048\" title=\"MAH00032(1)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abtec.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/MAH000321.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abtec.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/MAH000321.jpg 600w, https:\/\/abtec.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/MAH000321-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As to be expected from <strong>Sony<\/strong> the video on the <strong>HDR-AS30VPK<\/strong> is very crystal-clear and I get the idea it has something to do with the\u00a0<strong>Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar Lens<\/strong>. Over the last few weeks I have tested and made videos in 1080p in PAL &amp; NTSC, Slow-Mo videos in 720p 60p &amp; also 720p 120p Slow-Mo videos, which I must say was a good laugh watching peoples face reactions when heavy bass notes hit in <strong>ABTEC1<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You also have a choice of filming in 120 degrees or the ultra-wide 170 degrees, the 170 degree angle is a little fish-eyed but that is to be expected and is an amazing feature if you play a high action sport\/hobby that has a lot going on.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abtec.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/GPSTEST411.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4049\" title=\"GPSTEST4(1)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abtec.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/GPSTEST411.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abtec.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/GPSTEST411.jpg 600w, https:\/\/abtec.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/GPSTEST411-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The sound quality of the <strong>HDR-AS30VPK<\/strong> is very crisp and clean due to the Stereo microphone, I found it to pick up most frequencies pretty well considering it was never built for those duties. The only frequencies I found it to struggle with is extreme bass but in saying that I am yet to any camera or Action Camera that can record those sort of frequencies!<\/p>\n<p>Another cool feature on the <strong>Sony\u00a0HDR-AS30VPK<\/strong> is the <strong>Time Lapse<\/strong> feature, I didn&#8217;t spend much time with this feature over the break but lately have been using it more and more. What I am liking about the time lapse is the ease of turning 1-2hours (Can be more) of photos into a 2-3 minute video with the help of the <strong>PlayMemories Home App<\/strong> for PC\/Mac.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>GPS<\/strong> function is very useful for trekkers, Motorsports enthusiasts or even people that would like to show off their record breaking time to get from one point to another! To have the <strong>GPS<\/strong> info showing on your video you have to use the <strong>PlayMemories Home App<\/strong> which very easy to use even for the most technophobic person. The only grief I had with the rendering of the <strong>GPS<\/strong> video&#8217;s was that if your pc (like the one I used) doesn&#8217;t have much ram it doesn&#8217;t render the info 100%, however this is easily solved by using a better spec&#8217;d pc and not a basic office pc like I initially did!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abtec.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/GPSTEST42.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4050\" title=\"GPSTEST4(2)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abtec.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/GPSTEST42.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/abtec.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/GPSTEST42.jpg 600w, https:\/\/abtec.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/GPSTEST42-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Accessories<\/strong> available for the <strong>Sony\u00a0HDR-AS30VPK<\/strong>\u00a0are numerous and I could write a blog\/review on those alone but you can find all the current available accessories <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abtec.co.nz\/Action_Cameras_Accessories\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>HERE<\/strong>.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><object width=\"500\" height=\"300\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/6VSQ98P1Gog?hl=en_GB&amp;version=3&amp;rel=0\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed width=\"500\" height=\"300\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/6VSQ98P1Gog?hl=en_GB&amp;version=3&amp;rel=0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p>My overall opinion on the <strong>Sony\u00a0HDR-AS30VPK Action Cam<\/strong> is very high, so high that only after two days of testing I was already asking <strong>Ashley<\/strong> if I could buy one!
