{"id":2821,"date":"2013-01-18T09:12:49","date_gmt":"2013-01-17T20:12:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.abtec.co.nz\/blog\/?p=2821"},"modified":"2013-01-18T09:13:41","modified_gmt":"2013-01-17T20:13:41","slug":"pioneer-tsw-309-d4-subwoofers-hit-154-4db","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abtec.co.nz\/blog\/pioneer-tsw-309-d4-subwoofers-hit-154-4db\/","title":{"rendered":"Pioneer TSW-309-D4 Subwoofers Hit 154.4dB!!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As a lot of people are getting to know now, we at <strong>ABTEC<\/strong> have been doing a lot of <strong>dB SPL Testing<\/strong> using <strong>Entry Level Sub-Woofers<\/strong>. We have tried testing <strong>Entry Level Sub-Woofers<\/strong> from <strong>Sony<\/strong>, <strong>JBL<\/strong>, <strong>Digital Designs<\/strong> and this time around we decided to try four of the <strong>Pioneer TSW-309-D4 Sub-Woofers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Over this time <strong>ABTEC3<\/strong> has been taking a bit of a beating from the <strong>Sound Pressure Levels<\/strong> but I&#8217;m sure the little Vitz will continue to happily put up with a lot more for quite some time too.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.abtec.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Pioneer-1.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-2840\" title=\"Pioneer-1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.abtec.co.nz\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/Pioneer-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I went through my usual check list as I do and then double checked just to make sure I didn&#8217;t miss anything. Once this was all sorted and ready it was time to do a\u00a0frequency\u00a0sweep, apparently to the <strong>Term-Lab<\/strong> the sweet spot was <strong>58Hz<\/strong> so we gave the <strong>TSW-309-D4&#8217;s<\/strong> a quick <strong>&#8216;Burp&#8217;<\/strong>! And the result caught me by surprise, we got a <strong>153.1dB<\/strong> @ <strong>58Hz<\/strong>. I could of stopped there but I had a feeling that there was more in them, so I tried a couple of more times with the best result of <strong>154.4dB<\/strong> @ <strong>56Hz<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p><iframe src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qM3F9o2CFVc\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"515\" height=\"270\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>My overall opinion of these <strong>Sub-Woofers<\/strong> has\u00a0definitely been lifted after the tests we have done on them, not only did we do a <strong>154.4dB<\/strong> with them but we also did it without even running them in. <strong>SPL<\/strong> testing a Sub-Woofer that is not run in can increase the risk of damaging the <strong>Sub-Woofer<\/strong> but in saying that so can putting\u00a0<strong>10K+ RMS<\/strong> into four\u00a0<strong>Sub-Woofers<\/strong> rated at <strong>400w RMS<\/strong> even if they are run-in.<\/p>\n<p>I must say I really enjoyed doing this <strong>SPL Test<\/strong> since we all had a good laugh while learning something at the same time and it also goes to show that you don&#8217;t need the most expensive <strong>Sub-Woofers<\/strong> to get <strong>150+<\/strong> results.
