Klipsch RF82II Speaker Product Review

Now I must say right up front, I have had my eye on these for a while so when the opportunity came up we just had to have a set of these.

Right time to unpack….

They are well packaged and unlikely to get damaged in transit.

I’m already liking the size of these and looking forward to getting these babies going.

Time to connect them up and start running them in, planned a 15-20 hour run in time and definitely worth the wait. As I tried different types of music I was starting to get attached to them, really like their dominant room filling experience.

Alright, I have taken these speakers through their paces, Wow! What a sound!

Really brought the room alive with sound. These big fellows just wanted to make themselves know and yes they surely did that.

Now, these have two 8″ drivers per cabinet and horn loaded tweeters all that in one, I was nothing less than super impressed.

Ok time to see what Klipsch themselves have to say about this product, see below…

In addition to the improved sound quality, the look of “big sound” has been redefined throughout the line with sophisticated cabinetry, refreshed logos and rounded feet.

Four Laws of the Klipsch Universe

Beginning in 1946, company founder, Paul W. Klipsch believed four principles to be the foundation for great sound. Together, these four design principles—high efficiency with low distortion, controlled directivity, flat frequency response, and wide dynamic range—have and always will be the foundation for our stunningly powerful and precise sound.

Features

Every Reference speaker utilizes our Tractrix® Horn technology for lifelike sound, more output using less energy, improved reliability, reduced distortion and a large soundstage with well-defined imaging.

Our light, yet rigid Cerametallic woofer cones feature specially treated aluminium to help better dampen and prevent distortion.

Titanium tweeter with linear travel suspension—trickle-down technology from our flagship Palladium Series—provides an open, natural sound, making you feel as if you’re in the studio with the recording artist or on the set of a film.

Rounded feet offer less protrusion, giving the cabinet a slimmer, more sophisticated look with new copper accents.

Klipsch History

Paul W. Klipsch (PWK) is one of America’s most celebrated audio pioneers because he revolutionized the way the world listens to recorded music.

Unsatisfied with the sound quality of phonographs and early speaker systems, Mr. Klipsch used scientific principles to develop a corner horn speaker that sounded more lifelike than its predecessors.

The Klipschorn®, which today is still manufactured and sold worldwide, proved that it was possible to reproduce the sound of a live orchestra inside a home. The resulting acoustics career of Mr. Klipsch spanned from 1946, when he founded one of the first U.S. loudspeaker companies, to 2000 when the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society published one of his papers. He died on May 5, 2002 at the age of 98.

Fred Klipsch, a cousin to PWK and former Klipsch owner and chairman, said,

“Paul was a verifiable genius who could have chosen any number of vocations, but the world sounds a lot better because he chose audio. He was a great man who always tried to do the right thing in the right way.”

In 1978, Paul W. Klipsch was awarded the Audio Engineering Society’s second highest honour, the prestigious Silver Medal, for his contributions to speaker design and distortion measurement.

Mr. Klipsch was inducted into the Audio Hall of Fame in 1983. In 1997, he was inducted into the Engineering and Science Hall of Fame, an honour shared by Thomas Edison, George Washington Carver and the Wright brothers.

The Engineering and Science Hall of Fame recognizes those who have improved the quality of the human condition through an individual contribution using engineering and scientific principles.

Pros: Great performance and very well detailed and best of all, amazing sound with a full bass response though all the frequencies.

Cons: Could not fault these at all

The Verdict:

Was truly amazed with there execution of music at high and low levels, the bass was rich and clean, also the clarity and attention to detail delivered by the horn loaded tweeters in conjuction with the lows worked well togeather.

These were a very enjoyable room filling pair of speakers and recommend you have a listen as getting the right speakers is extremely important as will be with you hopefully for many years to come.
