As the search goes on for SPL results over the 150dB mark we have been trying our different box designs in different cars in our fleet, so far the box that has been the most successful is the one with the four JBL GTO1214 SVC subs in it.
Lawrence has tried SPL test’s with every box available in our arsenal and after many close results the decision was made to stick with the four JBL 12″s and throw more power at it. So out with the Digital Designs M3a and in with a Digital Designs M4a and the 5200w RMS it produces!
After a few attempts netting high 149’s it was time to readjust the settings on the Head-Unit, amp and car, which made that little bit of difference needed and the little Toyota bB finally managed to get into the magical 150 range with a 150.3dB. At this point Lawrence was just beaming with excitement and as much as he wanted to turn the gain up that much more and try again, he decided he would call it a day and give it another attempt on the following Saturday.
Saturday approached pretty quickly as we all waited in anticipation to see if the bB could replicate the same result and after a few hours of demoing the Digital Designs Z18 it was time to test the Toyota bB to see what it’s got!
On the first burp the result was a lot lower than expect but this was due to a new platform that was placed in the bB to support the box, so out came the platform and another run was done resulting in a 150.4dB!
I’d like to say a massive congratulations to Lawrence McLaren for joining the 150dB club! All of us at ABTEC are looking forward to seeing/hearing the bB make this result official at our next sound-off next month at the Lower Hutt Workshop!
I know your not a big fan of cameras Lawrence so in honour of that here is a photo of you attempting to hide from the camera.
Usually I’d end a blog like this with a photo but this time I feel a video of the 150.4dB run is better suited… Enjoy!
