Amid a world of noise and clutter, automotive and home audio specialists Abtec at 49 Hutt Road are providing a quality sound with high end speakers from around the world that induce relaxation and straight out pleasure.
According to Abtec owner Ashley Burrell the sound is all about providing quality customer service.
The top speaker brands roll off the tongue with an exclusivity to Abtec – Klipsch, Kef, JBL,Energy, Digital Designs, Rotel, Onkyo and Sony. They are all on the shelf, or standing waist high on the show room floor, in their high quality boxes ready to be heard by customers who know their sound.
“People are tired of tiny little speakers with no quality to their sound – they want real noise with fine nuances and booming bass to balance out their music and listening pleasure,” says Ashley.
Digital television sets make great pictures but mediocre sound, he believes.
Abtec, of course, have the solution with a Sound Bar that fits neatly under the width of the screen and has a digital display, with a wireless sub woofer parked discretely at the opposite end of the room. “ The sound is wonderful and goes back to the early days of television when real speakers were installed.
“Even my mother has one and thinks it’s wonderful being fully controlled at a touch – it’s just like being at movies,” he says.
Ashley says customers are turning their homes into entertainment centres.

Special Sony units, like the STR-DN1050 multi channel audio unit, is powerful and drives heavy duty speakers, television and other devices and is one of many options available at Abtec.
Equipment specifically for digital music and linking to smart phones and other devices have a smaller footprint but with high end sound from speakers that provide extra bass and sub woofer control.
“They are great units providing total control with a great quality output at a price that makes them a real asset in the home,” he says.
Ashley enthuses about sound and the possibilities for home entertainment and listening pleasure.
“We are the leading supplier of high end quality equipment in the Hutt Valley and the lower half of the North Island with customers from Palmerston North and Levin recently buying equipment from us because there is nowhere else that does it quite like we do.”
Customers service is a key and an absolute enthusiasm for quality outputs from the equipment they provide.
“We have been in the business a long time now and know what works in different situations.”
Ashley says Abtec is a team that works together including his wife Narelle who recently held Ashley to his word and attended a Justin Timberlake concert in Auckland. “Our aim is to always deliver the best experience,” says Ashley with a grin.
Abtec’s reputation was built on car audio systems which still account for a lot of their business and date back 20 years when Ashley and his brother Darryl touted their sound systems around home shows.
“And we are still just as enthusiastic,” he says.
Abtec recently established their own specialist purpose-built centre on the corner of 49 Hutt Road and Riddlers Crescent in the Petone precinct.
“Customers like the easy access and our specialist sound room is really popular – they can relax, load up their own music, and bury themselves in the surround sound of the different speakers – its great!”
