It’s that time again, time for the V 4 & Rotary Jamboree Sounds Alive & Extreme Bass Battle Sound Off March 2015 Update! Its hard to believe its been a whole year since I have last competed at a Sound Off or even worked at one too, however this time round I would not be competing but running the show and squeezing in the odd demo here and there… To my surprise everything was already setup (Many thanks to Ashley ‘Madd Bass’ Burrell and Darryl Burrell) when I arrived and most of the competitors had already arrived and were already prepped.
First runs of the morning were the “Kiwi Classes” and I was amazed on how smooth all of this ran, with a lot of the competitors getting personal best’s or very close to it. Once we had all the runs completed for the “Kiwi Classes” everybody had a quick break and I got my demo on, also while we were having the break I had a demo in a couple of cars and one stood out but we will get to that soon! One thing I did notice this year were the amount of crowds drawn in due to the cars being more music focused and I must admit it is more exciting (And easier to relate to) watching/listening to cars playing music than a 1-2 second frequency burp!
Highlights of the day – Well this is quite a hard one since there were so many highlights including myself demoing for over half the day… The first thing that stands out was Tom Mangu doing a 155.9dB on Music while his alternator belt was slipping to the point of smoking, I literally thought the smoke was coming from the burnout competition!
The next highlight was sitting in Alex Samuel’s Mazda while the 2 DD-9515’s were shaking it so violently that a bolt holding a drivers side window popped out in the middle of the demo! If you have a chance to sit in Alex’s car I suggest you do so, as it is an awesome experience in itself!
I think the one highlight that got the most applause was when Sam Ashton & Jason Gamble were lined up in the lanes and for a while there the results between these two competitors were so close for some time till Sam managed to squeeze a touch more out of his setup!
Person of the day AKA Topdog- I was given the honor of picking the person of the day and I must admit it was actually a really hard decision since everybody did so well and the energy of the event was really good this year with everybody supporting each other on their runs! My pick in the end was Alex Samuel, not only for the epic demo I got or the 150dB+ result he got but for the effort of driving all the way down from South Auckland, competing and then driving all the way back! As someone that has done this numerous times I know how tiring it can be and to me that was the deciding factor!
